SMOTIES

Human Cities – Creative works with small and remote places

Smoties is a project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of The European Union.

The POLIMI DESIS Lab coordinates the project within a network of 10 partners: Milan, Italy (Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano), Cité du Design (Saint-Etienne, France), Clear Village (London, UK), FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences (Graz, Austria), Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Estonian Association of Designers (Tallinn, Estonia), University of the Aegean (Ermoupoli, Syros, Greece), Zamek Cieszyn (Cieszyn, Poland), University of Madeira (Funchal, Madeira, Portugal), Alternance SLF (Reykjavik, Iceland)

Smoties will apply a participatory design approach with local creative communities to 10 small and remote European places, which are depopulated, relationally remote and depositories of a material and immaterial culture that risks being undervalued, not consolidated, not handed down, and hence lost. It goes in the direction of making culture and creativity an asset for economic, social and inclusive growth in sub-urban contexts.

Duration: 2020 – 2024
