CampUS
Incubation and implementation of social practices
Awarded with the XXV Compasso d’oro (2018)
It is a research programme funded by the 2014 Polisocial Award as a potential incubator for social, locally-scalable practices. The project targeted NEETs (young people Not in Education, Employment or Training) and the over sixtyfives, providing NEETs with the opportunity to acquire skills and become involved in actions designed to promote intergenerational dialogue with a view to giving back to the over 65s a significant social role by placing value on their historical memory. The research was organised around campUS in, for on-campus actions, and campUS out, for offcampus actions (in the local neighbourhood).
Main results:
- Shared urban community gardens in unused public green areas;
- Co-design, together with vulnerable neighbourhood groups (NEETs), social neighbourhood TV stations;
- Design and prototype a temporary, transportable installation: a mobile pavilion representing new (“open source”) models for use of the area;
- Develop an innovative economic model for managing these initiatives in the long term based on the exchange of already locally available skills.
