The Public Market in Viale Monza

The exhibition organized by the Department of Design of Politecnico di Milano presents the results of the “Contest Design Studio”, a design studio that involved over seventy students of the Master’s Degree in Interior & Spatial Design of Politecnico di Milano. The theme of the course, which took place in the first half of the academic year 2018/2019, focused on the redesign of the Public Market of Viale Monza, a place of historical interest from a social and architectural point of view, which has been partially closed for years (many of the stalls once active are now inaccessible and unused).
The participating students created fourteen different visions of the market of the future through a design process composed of three main phases: demographic and cultural knowledge of the neighborhood; generation of a vision for the redevelopment of the Municipal Market for the next ten years; design of the market to renew its interiors from an an aesthetic and thematic point of view.
